Consonus History
In January 2007, Consonus of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Strategic Technologies, Inc. of Cary, North Carolina, joined forces to become Consonus Technologies, Inc. The merger united Consonus, a high-availability data center and IT solutions provider, with Strategic Technologies, a data center-focused provider of managed services and resilient infrastructure solutions. Together as Consonus Technologies, we design, build, host and manage high-availability data center solutions.
Established in 1996 to store, protect and manage critical business information and computer systems, Consonus was fast becoming a national leader in the design and delivery of high-availability data center solutions. Originally headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, Questar Corporation founded Consonus and later sold to private equity firm Knox Lawrence International in 2005.
Strategic Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1988 as CAD Systems of the Carolinas — a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) company focusing on service, technical expertise, and training. Growing quickly, the company recognized the changing trend in the technology industry towards client/server architecture. In 1990, leveraging our existing knowledge and experience in CAD/CAM system engineering, we branched into engineering automation, general system infrastructure design and implementation, and related areas where our customers had needs. Services grew to include document and imaging management, training and skills transfer, system support, business systems, network and systems management solutions. The company was renamed Strategic Technologies, Inc. in 1991.
Consonus Cares: Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility

Efforts for Haiti
The headlines were distressing and the pictures were heart-wrenching. Along with millions of other citizens around the world, Consonus joined relief efforts to help those in Haiti. Consonus matched, dollar for dollar, donations made to the Haiti disaster relief. We choose three international charitable organizations — the Red Cross, Save the Children, and CARE — who could quickly get donations to those in need. Donations totaled almost $8,000! In addition to monetary contributions and matching funds, Consonus employees volunteered their time to pack emergency kits for earthquake victims.
American Heart Association
Consonus actively supports and participates in charitable events for the American Heart Association. Consonus Co-President John Roger is a member of the Executive Leadership Team for the American Heart Association’s Triangle Gala, a one-of-a-kind black-tie affair in celebration of life and representing the Triangle’s top business, medical, civic and social leaders. Recently, Consonus sponsored a Heart Heroes reception at Umstead, recognizing the work of key individuals and organizations, as well as presenting checks to UNC, Duke and WakeMed to continue their research for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Share our Shoes
For the first quarter of 2010, Consonus collected shoes for a local charity, Share our Shoes (SOS). At the end of March 2010, Consonus employees had donated more than 170 pairs of shoes. SOS is a non-profit organization in Raleigh, North Carolina dedicated to helping those in need of gently worn shoes. Each pair of shoes gives someone in need a smile and a chance to walk comfortably and safely during their times of hardship. It’s a great way to recycle shoes and help someone less fortunate.
Food Bank
A group of Consonus team members donated their time at the Food Bank in Raleigh, NC on Saturday February 27, 2010. Consonus was able to collect 66 pounds of food — about 56 meals — to the Food Bank. Thanks to the success of this one, other Consonus-sponsored food drives for the Food Bank will definitely be scheduled in the future.
One Day Program
As Consonus continues to play an active role in the community, employees are encouraged to participate in our One Day program that offers staff one day out of the office, per year, to give back to the community by volunteering time and talent. Ways to volunteer include: assisting teachers at local schools through reading programs for children; providing support to local hospitals with a caring touch to newborns in the Intensive Care Nursery; participating in Habitat home building; or teaming with co-workers on a special project for the community.
